The Académie des sciences announces today that it will stop publishing on the social network X (formerly Twitter). This decision follows the evolution of the network and a shared observation concerning the growing difficulties in maintaining a space for scientific discussion that respects the values that the Academy defends.
Since the switch from Twitter to X, the spread of false information has increased considerably, due to the reduction in moderation activities. Publications that are often contrary to scientific rigor and the Academy's ethics thus tend to saturate the space in a worrying way, making the platform less and less conducive to constructive debate and the sharing of reliable information.
Furthermore, the Academy observes that X is increasingly tending to become a politically oriented forum, where discourse focuses on ideological confrontations, to the detriment of fact-based exchanges of ideas. This evolution no longer corresponds to the use the Academy wishes to make of a social network.
From now on, we will no longer be publishing on X, as the Academy of Sciences favors other communication channels to stay in touch with its audience. We invite our members and partners to follow us from now on on LinkedIn, Instagram, as well as on Bluesky, for all information and news concerning our work.
We thank all our subscribers for their understanding and support.
